A. MAJOR COURSE-
BAB - 501 Cellular and Developmental Biology:
General structure and constituents of plant and animal cells, cell wall organozation, synthesis and assembly of membrane components, Cell surface related function, adhesion, cell interaction and other communication, transport and excretion. Cell division, Mitosis and Meiosis, Mitotic -meiotic switches-regulatory mechanism. Intracellular membranes, their molecular structure, synthesis and Function, Cytoskeleton element, structure and Function of major organelles, chromosome, molecular organozation and packening of chromatin in chromosome. Chloroplast and mitochondria, ribosome in relation to cell growth and division, specialized cells in various tissues, cell volume and genome in evolution, early embroyonic development in animals, genetic basis of pattern formation during development in Drosophila, homeotic genes, Development of Floral parts, fertilization, embryo and seed development, Cytochemical techniques for qualitive and quantitative estimation of macromolecules.
Practical -
Examination of cell structure, orgenelle, floral parts, embryo sac and seeds of crop plants, examination of chromosomes in plants, mitosis and meiosis in plants. Isolation of Nucleic acids-total DNA, RNA, organelle DNA, detection of Cot Value-isolation and quantification of proteins.
